Turkish Airlines, based at Istanbul Airport, has finalized an order for four Boeing 777-200LRF freighters, marking a significant expansion of its cargo operations and fleet capabilities.

The new order will bolster Turkish Airlines’ in-house freighter fleet to 22 aircraft, which currently includes ten A330-200Fs and eight Boeing 777-200LRFs, according to data from the ch-aviation fleets module. Additionally, the airline operates three A310-300(F)s from ULS Airlines Cargo, two A330-200Fs from CMA CGM Air Cargo, and one Boeing 747-400(BDSF) from AirACT through wet-lease arrangements.

Boeing’s order book for the Boeing 777F includes 56 aircraft destined for various global customers such as FedEx Express, China Southern Airlines, Emirates, Lufthansa Cargo, and others, underscoring the model’s popularity in the air cargo sector.

Turkish Airlines aims to consolidate its dedicated freighter fleet around the Boeing 777-200LRF type as part of its strategy to double cargo capacity by 2033. This expansion plan includes potential future orders and conversions of passenger aircraft to freighters (P2F).

Last year, Turkish Airlines announced its intention to significantly enhance its cargo capabilities and fleet size, aligning with growing global demand for air freight services.
