Turkish Airlines to Add 25 New Global Destinations
Turkish Airlines has announced an ambitious expansion plan, targeting 25 new cities worldwide for its network. The Star Alliance member has unveiled a list of future destinations that includes eight cities in Europe, four in the Americas, nine in the Middle East and Africa, and two in the Asia-Pacific region, along with two domestic Turkish cities.
Among the notable additions is Atyrau, Kazakhstan, located on the Caspian Sea. If launched, this route would provide Atyrau Airport (GUW) with its second connection to Istanbul Airport, complementing Air Astana’s existing service. Currently, Turkish Airlines serves Almaty, Astana, Aktau, and Turkistan in Kazakhstan.
Other planned European destinations include Bergen (Norway), Glasgow (Scotland), Iasi and Timisoara (Romania), Katowice (Poland), Nantes (France), and Newcastle (England). In Turkey, new domestic routes to Bayburt and Yozgat are on the agenda.
For the Middle East and Africa, Turkish Airlines aims to add flights to Abha (Saudi Arabia), Aswan (Egypt), Brazzaville (Republic of the Congo), Hargeisa (Somaliland), Lome (Togo), Port Sudan (Sudan), Salalah (Oman), and Windhoek (Namibia).
In the Asia-Pacific region, potential new destinations include Phnom Penh (Cambodia) and Sydney (Australia). In the Americas, Turkish Airlines plans to add Lima (Peru), Orlando (U.S.), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and Santiago (Chile).
Turkish Airlines has indicated that it may introduce a route to Sydney by year-end, potentially becoming its second destination in Australia. The carrier is also considering increasing frequencies to Melbourne.
During the second quarter of 2024, Turkish Airlines saw a 7.7% increase in passenger traffic, carrying 22.1 million passengers. Despite challenges such as aircraft delivery delays, its capacity during this period was 38% higher than pre-pandemic levels.
