Turkish Airlines to rebrand into Türkiye Havayolları
Turkey’s well-known national carrier, Turkish Airlines, which has been operating since 1933, will change the livery of its aircraft to its local name, Türkiye Havayolları, the country’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on June 14, 2022.
“We have taken a symbolic step by changing Turkey’s name in the international sphere to ‘Türkiye’. From now on the fuselage of our planes will be marked not as Turkish Airlines but as Türkiye Havayollari,” Erdogan said during a speech at the commissioning ceremony of the Türksat 5B satellite.
The new change is part of Turkey’s initiative to only use the Turkish name of the country internationally. In June 2022, the United Nations changed the country’s name from Turkey to Türkiye, following a request from the country’s government.
