Turkish OTA Wingie Enuygun Expands with AI-Driven Strategy
Turkey’s young, tech-savvy population and high internet penetration position it as a strong player in the online travel market. Wingie Enuygun Group, a leading Turkish online travel agency (OTA), is capitalizing on this potential to drive expansion.
Speaking at The Phocuswright Conference 2024, CEO Çağlar Erol shared insights into Wingie’s growth. Operating in 22 countries, the OTA has seen significant success in the Middle East, particularly post-pandemic. The company now aims to strengthen its presence in the UAE and beyond.
Since its 2008 launch as a fintech-focused business, Wingie has evolved into a comprehensive travel platform, offering flights, hotels, transfers, car rentals, and bus tickets, supported by its payments gateway and digital wallet.
Erol acknowledged challenges in scaling across languages and countries, emphasizing the importance of technological investment. “As time goes by, you have to invest more in technology. Talent can be a challenge as everyone competes for the same resources,” he said.
Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a pivotal role in Wingie’s strategy. The company introduced a chatbot shortly after ChatGPT’s debut and now attributes 25% of its code to AI. Erol plans to increase this percentage, reflecting a strategy implemented two years ago to prioritize AI innovation.
With a focus on AI and a strong foothold in the Middle East, Wingie Enuygun Group is poised to tackle expansion challenges and redefine its role in the global travel market.
