Two Cruise Lines Confirm Port Calls at Cozumel, Costa Maya This Year

Now that the cruise industry is well on its way toward restarting operations after more than a year of shutdown, tourism-reliant communities are starting to see some solid plans and itineraries emerging from cruise companies.

Quintana Roo’s State Secretary of Tourism, Marisol Vanegas Pérez, today announced that two large cruise ships are confirmed to dock at ports in the Mexican Caribbean state during 2021, Riviera Maya News reported.

The first is an unspecified Royal Caribbean vessel, set to sail from the Bahamas and make port in Cozumel as part of its planned route, starting in June.

The other ship will be one of Norwegian Cruise Line’s (NCL) vessels, set to arrive a bit later, since the company has announced that it won’t even resume sailing operations until August.

Vanegas Pérez said that the Norwegian Joy has not yet detailed the dynamics of its seven-day itinerary, which will sail guests from Florida as far as the Bay Islands and Belize, but the company has confirmed Costa Maya as a port of call for this cruise.

The Norwegian Joy has scheduled its berth at the port of Mahahual in Costa Maya, starting in October. According to the published schedule for this cruise, the ship will depart from Miami and dock at Cozumel before heading down to Mahahual on the mainland coast of Mexico, and then continue southward.
