U.S. Airlines recover from FAA system outage

U.S. flights were largely back to normal Thursday Jan. 12 with some minor delays as carriers looked to recover from a Federal Aviation Administration system outage.

More than 500 flights within, into and out of the U.S. have been delayed, as of 7.a.m EST, according to flight tracker FlightAware.com. However, the country’s largest airlines were faring much better than Wednesday morning.

Southwest Airlines had the most delayed flights early Thursday, with 119 delays or around 3% of its schedule. United Airlines (UAL) delayed 2% of flights, while 1% of American Airlines, and Delta Air Lines flights were delayed.

In comparison, 53% of Southwest flights were delayed Wednesday, 58% of United flights, 57% of American’s schedule, and 43% of Delta’s. In total more than 10,600 flights within, into and out of the U.S. were delayed Wednesday.
