U.S. TSA Sets New Records with Busiest Passenger Screening Days

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has experienced unprecedented passenger volumes, marking its busiest days in the agency’s 22-year history. Recently, on May 24, June 14, and June 19, TSA checkpoints screened record-breaking numbers of travelers, with May 24 seeing 2.95 million passengers screened nationwide. This surge underscores a significant rebound in air travel demand following the pandemic, with several days surpassing TSA’s typical screening of 2.5 million passengers daily.

“Since last month, we’ve consistently seen several hundred thousand more travelers per day,” stated the TSA in a release. Seven of the top 10 busiest days at TSA checkpoints have occurred since mid-May, reflecting sustained high demand throughout the summer travel season.

Bart Johnson, TSA’s federal security director for New York state airports, emphasized the importance of arriving at least two hours before flight departure to streamline checkpoint processes. Looking ahead, the TSA anticipates more record-breaking days and urges passengers to arrive early, exercise patience, and adhere to TSA officer instructions to ensure smooth travel experiences.
