UAE’s Wizz Air Abu Dhabi adds first A321neo
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi (WAZ, Abu Dhabi Int’l) took delivery of its first A321-200NX ahead of its planned October 1, 2020, launch. A6-WZB (msn 9429) was ferried directly from Hamburg Finkenwerder to Abu Dhabi Int’l on September 2, 2020, AirNav RadarBox ADS-B data shows. The aircraft is the first of a pair due to join the start-up’s fleet prior to its launch, with the second, A6-WZA (msn 9503), undergoing completion at Airbus’s Finkenwerder site. As announced earlier, while Wizz Air Abu Dhabi plans to launch with the two A321neo, it hopes to add a further four units of the type over the first six months of its operations out of the United Arab Emirates and reach a total fleet of up to 50 aircraft by the end of its first decade. The low-cost carrier’s initial network will comprise flights to Alexandria Borg el Arab, Larnaca, Athens Int’l, Odesa, Yerevan, and Kutaisi. Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is the second low-cost carrier to launch out of the capital of the UAE in 2020, following Air Arabia Abu Dhabi (3L, Abu Dhabi Int’l), which commenced operations on July 18 and currently deploys two A320-200s. The two LCCs will compete on the route to Alexandria.
