Uber Launches Autonomous Solutions Unit for AV Growth

Uber Technologies has launched a new autonomous solutions business designed to help partners develop, deploy and commercialize autonomous vehicles globally.

The new division, Uber Autonomous Solutions, reflects the company’s ambition to become the world’s largest facilitator of autonomous vehicle trips. Rather than building all technology in-house, Uber is positioning itself as a commercialization and operations partner for self-driving developers.

In recent months, Uber has announced robotaxi partnerships with Canada-based startup Waabi, China’s Baidu and WeRide, and has been testing autonomous vehicles with Nuro and Lucid. The company also participated in Wayve’s $1.2 billion funding round, backing the AI-powered AV developer as part of its broader autonomy strategy.

Uber Air powered by Joby was also unveiled in Dubai this week, giving riders a preview within the Uber app of how they will book all-electric air taxi services once Joby begins passenger operations later this year. Uber first revealed plans to integrate Joby’s services into its platform in September 2025.

Uber Autonomous Solutions will provide partners with infrastructure, user experience design and fleet operations capabilities to accelerate commercialization while lowering cost per mile. The goal is to combine Uber’s global demand network with operational tools that enable AV developers to scale more quickly.

“Autonomous technology has remarkable potential to make transportation safer and more affordable,” said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. “Innovation in autonomy is moving quickly, but meaningful commercialization will take longer. With Uber Autonomous Solutions, we’re externalizing the capabilities we’ve built over more than a decade to support our partners.”

Sarfraz Maredia, global head of autonomous mobility and delivery, said the unit allows AV companies to focus on core software development while Uber manages demand generation, rider experience, customer support and real-world fleet operations.

The platform will also provide data, mapping, regulatory access, financing support and insurance solutions. Its user experience team will oversee in-car features such as climate, audio and assistance, including integration into the upcoming Nuro-Lucid-Uber robotaxi launch.

Separately, Uber is expanding its mobility ecosystem through the acquisition of parking platform SpotHero. The move will allow users to reserve parking directly within the Uber app, extending the company’s reach into multimodal transportation and driver services as it builds a broader mobility marketplace.
