TUI Airways (BY, London Luton) has confirmed to local news website Edinburgh Live that it will close its base at Edinburgh airport after the summer 2021 season and will not reopen it in 2022.

“As the airline with the largest regional airport network in the UK, it has been a difficult decision to remove our aircraft based at Edinburgh Airport next summer… Making this operational change will help protect our long-term future, and we look forward to continuing to work with Edinburgh Airport,” Aviation Planning Director Karen Switzer said.

The leisure carrier will continue to serve the capital of Scotland with aircraft based out of other airports. It is currently basing a single B737-800 out of Edinburgh. In Scotland, the airline will retain its base at Glasgow Int’l airport, as well as at Aberdeen Dyce in the north.

According to the ch-aviation PRO airlines module, TUI Airways currently bases its aircraft out of 12 airports in England, Cardiff in Wales, Belfast Int’l in Northern Ireland, Dublin Int’l in the Republic of Ireland, and the three Scottish airports.
