United Airlines Boosts In-Flight Connectivity with Starlink

United Airlines is set to revolutionize the in-flight experience by rapidly expanding Starlink Wi-Fi across its regional aircraft fleet. In a move aimed at enhancing connectivity for passengers, United will roll out Starlink Wi-Fi across its two-cabin Embraer E-175 regional jets by the end of 2025.

The integration of Starlink marks a major milestone in the airline’s efforts to provide faster, more reliable internet access. United plans to begin testing the service in February 2025, with the first commercial flights expected to launch in the spring. By the close of 2025, all Embraer E-175 regional jets, which accommodate up to 88 passengers, will be equipped with Starlink, ensuring passengers experience uninterrupted, high-speed internet.

In addition to the regional fleet, United is also preparing to install Starlink on its mainline aircraft, with the first Starlink-enabled jet set to take flight before the end of the year.

MileagePlus members will benefit from complimentary access to an enhanced in-flight entertainment system, which includes streaming services, shopping, gaming, and more. Starlink Wi-Fi will offer download speeds between 40 and 220 megabits per second, while uploads will range from 8 to 25 megabits per second. This ensures a seamless in-flight experience, free from buffering and the need for pre-downloaded content.

Richard Nunn, CEO of United MileagePlus, emphasized the importance of the Starlink rollout. “We have a lot planned for our MileagePlus members this year, and adding Starlink to as many planes as possible – as quickly as possible – is at the center of it all,” he stated.

United Airlines’ adoption of SpaceX’s Starlink Wi-Fi service follows a significant agreement signed in September 2024. This ambitious plan will ultimately see nearly 1,000 United planes equipped with Starlink, making it the first major U.S. carrier to offer SpaceX’s satellite-powered connectivity across such a vast fleet. By enhancing passenger connectivity with high-speed internet, United is ensuring its customers enjoy a more enjoyable and productive travel experience.
