United Airlines is taking inflight entertainment to the next level by upgrading its system with cutting-edge technology from Panasonic. As the first U.S. airline to adopt Panasonic’s Astrova C10 system, United aims to enhance the passenger experience.

The Astrova C10 system showcases OLED displays, renowned for their exceptional contrast and image quality, rivaling top-notch OLED TVs. This advanced system also supports Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, enabling passengers to seamlessly connect their wireless headphones, such as AirPods or noise-cancelling earbuds, to the seatback screens.

Designed to provide a seamless transition from personal devices to inflight entertainment, the Astrova C10 system offers convenient features. Each screen incorporates two 67W USB-C chargers, positioned at the bottom-left edge, ensuring devices stay powered throughout the journey. Passengers can personalize their viewing experience using a companion app, and a removable peripheral bar doubles as a remote control or game controller.

Aside from expanding content and features, the Astrova C10 system boasts audio fidelity enhancements and accessibility options for passengers with disabilities. Notably, it incorporates an independent left-right signaling system, ensuring simultaneous content delivery to each earbud and allowing single-ear use if necessary. Additionally, an “Accessible Entertainment” category offers on-demand seatback entertainment tailored to individuals with visual or hearing impairments.

United Airlines plans to equip its new Boeing 737 MAX 8 and Airbus A321neo aircraft with the Astrova C10 system. Furthermore, the airline intends to retrofit existing planes with this state-of-the-art technology. By the end of 2023, United expects to have over 700 aircraft equipped with seatback entertainment, elevating the passenger experience to new heights.
