In a move that adds an exotic flair to its route portfolio, United Airlines is set to launch a new service connecting New York Newark with Marrakesh, Morocco, starting October 24, 2024. This thrice-weekly operation, employing the Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, marks the second direct connection between the New York area and Morocco—complementing Royal Air Maroc’s existing services to JFK from Casablanca and Marrakesh. This new route is poised to become Marrakesh’s sole nonstop link to the U.S., enhancing the accessibility of a unique travel destination.

For United Airlines, Marrakesh will be the fifth African city in its expanding network, joining other destinations such as Accra, Ghana; Lagos, Nigeria; and both Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa. This expansion underlines United’s commitment to broadening its global footprint and providing diverse cultural experiences to its passengers.

In related news, American Airlines is also extending its international reach this October with the introduction of two significant long-haul routes from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW). The first, commencing on October 26, will connect DFW with Brisbane, Australia, via a new daily seasonal service. Utilizing the 787-9 Dreamliner, this route will cover a distance of 8,338 miles, making it American’s longest nonstop flight, surpassing the existing Los Angeles to Sydney route.

Additionally, American Airlines will revive its service to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from DFW with a seasonal daily flight beginning this month. This route, operated by the 787-8 Dreamliner, reestablishes a connection that was last offered regularly in February 2015 and briefly during the winter of 2017-18. The renewed service complements American’s flights from Miami and recently expanded operations from New York John F. Kennedy.

Additional New Routes

Air France is bolstering its Latin American offerings this winter by initiating service to Salvador, Brazil, from Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG). Starting October 28, the airline will operate this route three times a week with the Airbus A350-900, expanding its Brazilian network to five cities.

Other new routes this October include Aer Lingus’s Dublin to Las Vegas service and Delta Air Lines’ seasonal route from Orlando to London Heathrow. Meanwhile, KLM will take over Delta’s direct Amsterdam-Portland service, and Air Canada is set to start a seasonal daily flight from London Heathrow to New Delhi, connecting passengers from transatlantic services originating in Calgary and Vancouver.
