United Airlines Reduces March Flights to China, Cutting 68% of Services
United Airlines is scaling back its flight operations to China once again. According to Cirium data, the airline has slashed 161 flights from its March schedule. This reduction affects services from New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington DC to major Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu.
The airline has modified seven different routes, each seeing 23 flights removed from the March itinerary. The only services remaining unaffected are the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU) route, which maintains its single scheduled service, and the daily flights connecting San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), a route transporting over 10,000 passengers monthly.
Two significant cuts have been made from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR): 23 flights each to Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) and Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG). These reductions signify a considerable passenger loss, totaling over 6,000 for each route. Despite the cutbacks, United Airlines will continue to operate two services on each of these routes in March, catering to around 500 passengers per route.
