United Airlines to Resume Tel Aviv Flights from July 21
United Airlines has announced the return of its New York to Tel Aviv route, becoming the first US carrier to resume service following the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran. In a statement released on July 8, 2025, the airline confirmed that flights from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Tel Aviv will restart on July 21, with a second daily flight resuming the following day. The flights will be operated using Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft.
United said the decision to restart service followed a detailed review of regional conditions and coordination with employee unions representing pilots and flight attendants. The airline emphasized that safety remains the top priority and that all operations are subject to ongoing risk assessments. United had last flown to Tel Aviv on June 11, just one day before Israel launched an air strike against Iranian military and nuclear targets. That escalation led to widespread suspension of flights by major international carriers.
Following the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran on June 24, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) lifted its flight restrictions on Israel on July 7. This move opened the door for airlines to resume service to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport. United said it has operated more flights to Tel Aviv in 2025 than any other US airline and noted that passengers can also reach the Israeli city via codeshare connections with members of the Lufthansa Group.
Despite the return of commercial flights, the US Embassy in Jerusalem continues to advise caution. A travel advisory issued on July 1 described the situation in Israel, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, as unpredictable. The US government advises against travel to Gaza and within 11.3 kilometers of its borders due to risks from terrorism and armed conflict. Warnings also extend to areas within four kilometers of the Lebanese and Syrian borders and within 2.4 kilometers of the Egyptian border, except for the Taba border crossing, which remains open.
United’s announcement signals a cautious return to normalcy in regional air travel following the flare-up in hostilities. The airline is expected to monitor the situation closely and adjust its operations based on developments and official guidance. As of now, United passengers planning to travel to Tel Aviv are advised to stay updated on travel advisories and remain vigilant throughout their journey.
