United Airlines Unveils New ‘Elevated’ Interiors for 787-9 Fleet

United Airlines has introduced its new ‘United Elevated’ cabin interiors, a sweeping redesign for its upcoming Boeing 787-9 aircraft set to operate long-haul international routes beginning in 2026. The update marks a major investment in passenger comfort and technology, positioning United as a premium leader among U.S. international carriers.
The nose-to-tail redesign features a total of 99 premium seats—more than any other U.S. airline on similar aircraft—and includes enhancements across all classes. At the top end of the new layout are eight United Polaris Studio suites in the first row of each business class section. These premium suites offer lie-flat, all-aisle-access seating that’s 25% larger than standard Polaris seats. Each suite includes a privacy door, companion ottoman seating, wireless charging, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 27-inch 4K OLED seatback screen—the largest in its class among U.S. airlines. Passengers will also enjoy exclusive meal options, including an Ossetra caviar amuse-bouche and upgraded amenity kits.
The remaining Polaris business class seats are being upgraded to enclosed suites with sliding doors and new 19-inch 4K OLED screens. United is also enhancing its Premium Plus cabin, featuring 35 seats in a 2-3-2 layout—its highest count of this cabin class to date.
In economy, passengers will benefit from improved seats with larger in-flight entertainment screens and Bluetooth support. The Economy Plus section will offer 33 seats with added legroom, while standard economy will include 90 seats in a 3-3-3 configuration. The total layout across the aircraft features 15 rows in economy and a reconfigured layout for maximum comfort in all cabins.
United has also committed over $150 million to food and beverage upgrades for 2025, which will enhance the culinary experience across all cabins. Even in economy, guests can expect expanded options with three entrée choices, an appetizer, and new desserts.
According to Andrew Nocella, United’s EVP and Chief Commercial Officer, the Elevated interiors reflect the airline’s mission to lead in premium travel. “We already deliver a superior international experience and fly to the most places across the Atlantic and Pacific. These new innovations provide a more premium experience overall, give customers even more reasons to choose United, and set our airline up to grow into the next decade and beyond,” Nocella said.
The first 787-9 aircraft with Elevated interiors is expected to be delivered by the end of 2025, with inaugural routes including San Francisco to Singapore and San Francisco to London Heathrow. United plans to outfit all future 787-9 deliveries with the Elevated interior, with approximately 30 aircraft expected to join the fleet by 2027.
This cabin overhaul signals United’s focus on elevating the international flying experience, reinforcing its position as a competitive force in global premium travel.
