United Leases 10 Boeing 737-9s from DAE

United Airlines has finalized a purchase and leaseback deal with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) for 10 new Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft, further expanding its narrowbody fleet. The Dubai government-owned lessor confirmed the agreement on July 28, 2025, noting that the aircraft will be delivered between August 2025 and February 2026 under long-term lease arrangements.
The transaction deepens the relationship between the two companies. DAE CEO Firoz Tarapore expressed confidence in the ongoing partnership, stating, “We are delighted to continue building on our valued relationship with United. Today’s announcement follows our recent acquisition of an Airbus A321neo on lease to United and reflects our continued commitment to the North American market.”
The Boeing 737 MAX 9 is a key part of United’s fleet renewal and capacity strategy. According to ch-aviation data, the airline currently operates 102 737-9s and is awaiting delivery of another 116, including the 10 aircraft in this latest leaseback deal. The model supports United’s push for greater fuel efficiency, fleet commonality, and improved operational flexibility across its domestic and short-haul international network.
DAE has been actively expanding its portfolio through strategic acquisitions and new aircraft commitments. In May 2025, the company completed its $2 billion acquisition of Irish aircraft lessor Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC), adding significantly to its asset base. The deal raised DAE’s total portfolio to around 750 owned, managed, and committed aircraft.
The lessor also holds commitments to acquire approximately 100 more aircraft from major OEMs, including Boeing, Airbus, and ATR, as well as through secondary market trades. This aggressive acquisition strategy underlines DAE’s goal of strengthening its global presence and cementing its role as a major aircraft leasing player.
The agreement with United Airlines marks another step in DAE’s strategy to support top-tier carriers with modern, in-demand aircraft, while helping airlines manage capital allocation through flexible lease structures. For United, the deal ensures the continued growth of its 737 MAX fleet without the need for immediate capital outlay.
As both companies deepen their collaboration, the deal signals sustained confidence in the 737 MAX program and growing momentum in aircraft leasing activity amid global fleet modernization efforts.
