United to Operate Largest-Ever Transatlantic Schedule in Summer 2024, Launches Newark-Faro Route

United Airlines is gearing up for a record-breaking summer in 2024 with its most expansive transatlantic schedule to date. The airline plans to introduce several new routes and additional frequencies, including a first-of-its-kind nonstop service from New York’s Newark Liberty International Airport to Faro, Portugal, starting May 24, 2024. This four-times-weekly service will make United the only airline offering direct flights between the US and Faro, further strengthening its presence in the transatlantic market.

This new route to Faro adds to United’s existing Portuguese services, which include flights between Newark and Lisbon, Washington Dulles and Lisbon, Newark and Porto, as well as Newark and Ponta Delgada in the Azores. Additionally, United is set to resume seasonal flights between Newark and Reykjavik from May 23, 2024, marking the first time since the summer of 2022. The carrier will also introduce second daily frequencies between Newark and Brussels, and between Washington and Rome.

United’s summer schedule for 2024 includes several other recommencements of seasonal transatlantic routes. These include services from Washington to Lisbon, Barcelona, and Rome starting February 15; from Newark to Nice starting March 30; from Chicago to Rome and Milan starting March 30; from Newark to Naples starting April 5; from Newark to Malaga starting May 2; and from San Francisco to Rome starting May 2.

United’s expansion of its transatlantic routes is a significant move in the airline industry, offering passengers more options and flexibility for international travel.
