US’s Eastern Airlines drops transatlantic plans
Eastern Airlines (2D, Miami Int’l) has suspended its transatlantic ambitions after it dropped Sarajevo from its Summer 2021 schedule, ch-aviation schedule analysis has indicated. The Pennsylvania-headquartered carrier planned to serve the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina weekly out of Chicago O’Hare, using its B767-200(ER) widebodies and starting on May 28, 2021. The route has now been removed from the airline’s schedule. As such, Sarajevo will not gain its first transatlantic service and will remain connected exclusively to destinations in Europe and the Middle East. Eastern Airlines also removed its only planned domestic service from New York JFK to Anchorage Ted Stevens, which was also due to launch on May 28. The airline will continue to focus on serving destinations in Latin America out of Boston, Miami Int’l, and New York JFK, using its fleet of one B767-200, three B767-200(ER)s, six B767-300(ER)s, and two yet-to-be-inducted B777-200(ER)s.
