Uzbekistan Airways Considers Order for 14 Boeing 787-8s

Uzbekistan Airways is in advanced discussions to acquire 14 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) expected to be signed soon, according to board chairman Shukhrat Khudaykulov. The estimated $2 billion deal would see deliveries between 2029 and 2032.
The airline currently operates seven Boeing 787-8s, including one VIP-configured jet for the government. These aircraft, aged between 5.6 and 8.5 years, were acquired through multiple orders in 2007, 2016, and 2018.
Uzbekistan’s president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, recently approved a $400 million fundraising plan for the country’s transportation sector, allocating $100 million to Uzbekistan Airways. The airline is reportedly close to finalizing a Deutsche Bank agreement to secure these funds.
If confirmed, this Boeing order would be in addition to Uzbekistan Airways’ November 2022 deal with Airbus for 12 narrowbody aircraft, initially comprising eight A320-200Ns and four A321-200Ns, later revised to 14 A321neos.
Uzbekistan Airways currently operates a 44-aircraft fleet, serving 71 airports across 29 countries. Its lineup includes nine A320-200s, ten A320-200Ns, five A321-200NX(LR)s, five Boeing 767-300ERs, two Boeing 767-300ER(BCF)s, and a wet-leased A330-200.
As part of its fleet modernization strategy, the state-owned airline aims to strengthen its position as a key hub between Asia and Europe, leveraging its growing fleet of fuel-efficient, long-haul aircraft.
