Vale Sells Its Last Corporate Jet in Cost-Cutting Move

Vale, one of the world’s largest mining and logistics conglomerates, is selling its only remaining corporate jet to further reduce costs, according to reports by O Globo. The company, headquartered in Brazil and operating out of Rio de Janeiro International, has been downsizing its corporate aviation fleet for several years.

The aircraft being sold is a Global Express XRS, registration PP-VDR (msn 9312), a 16.5-year-old jet that has been in Vale’s service since it was new. Based out of Belo Horizonte Pampulha, the jet has been used exclusively for corporate travel and is not certified for commercial charters. It was last active on February 15, 2025. Vale’s decision to sell the jet reflects its ongoing efforts to cut costs, as executives will now travel on commercial airlines.

In addition to selling the Global Express XRS, Vale has reportedly purchased a smaller Praetor 500 to serve as a more cost-effective replacement for its corporate travel needs. However, details regarding the identity of the new Praetor 500 have not yet been disclosed.

This move is part of a gradual downsizing of Vale’s once extensive corporate jet fleet. At its peak in 2012, Vale operated up to eight corporate jets. Over the years, the fleet has been reduced significantly, with the penultimate aircraft—an Embraer E190—being phased out in 2023.

Beyond its jet operations, Vale continues to maintain a modest aviation portfolio, which includes one King Air B300 and a fleet of five helicopters used for various operational and logistical purposes.

By transitioning its executive travel from dedicated corporate jets to commercial flights, Vale aims to streamline operations and reduce overall expenses, aligning its travel practices with its broader cost-management strategies.
