Victory Cruise Lines Teams with Wright Foundation
Victory Cruise Lines has forged an educational partnership with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation for its 2025 Great Lakes season, offering guests a unique blend of architectural enrichment and immersive shore excursions. Under this collaboration, passengers aboard Victory I and Victory II will have access to an onboard lecture series created and presented by the Taliesin Institute, followed by guided visits to some of Wright’s most celebrated works in Chicago, Detroit and Muskegon.
John Waggoner, chairman and founder of Victory Cruise Lines, said the alliance brings a new dimension to the company’s enrichment programs. “Frank Lloyd Wright left a beautiful legacy of architectural marvels across the Great Lakes including two sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List and our guests will appreciate exploring his vision through his designs and learning so much along the way,” Waggoner explained. He noted that the line’s travelers value opportunities for hands-on learning, and that the partnership with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation elevates the onboard experience with insights drawn directly from Wright’s Taliesin Institute.
In Chicago, the shore tours begin at Unity Temple, one of Wright’s pioneering concrete structures, followed by visits to the Frank Lloyd Wright Home & Studio, the Robie House in Hyde Park and the historic Rookery Building in the Loop. Each site offers a different perspective on Wright’s evolving philosophy, from his early Prairie School concepts to his later urban commissions. Taliesin scholars will guide guests through the buildings’ distinctive features, illuminating Wright’s approach to integrating form, function and the natural landscape.
The Detroit excursion takes passengers to the Cranbrook Center for Collections and Research to explore the Smith House, a serene country residence embodying Wright’s organic architecture principles. In Muskegon and nearby Grand Rapids, the itinerary includes the Meyer May House, restored to its original 1909 appearance, and the private Amberg House, where guests can witness Wright’s mastery of light, space and geometric harmony. The tight-knit group sizes ensure personalized attention from the scholar-guides, fostering deeper appreciation of Wright’s design innovations.
