Vienna International Airport, located in Schwechat, approximately 18 kilometers southeast of Vienna’s city center, is Austria’s largest airport. This prominent aviation facility plays a pivotal role as a hub for numerous airlines, notably Austrian Airlines. Boasting four terminals and two runways, Vienna International Airport has the capability to accommodate wide-body aircraft, including the Airbus A380.

  • The airport handled 17 million passengers in 2022, which is about 50% of the pre-crisis level of 2019 and a significant increase from the 10.4 million passengers in 2021.
  • The airport generated a revenue of about € 560 million and an EBITDA of at least €172 million in 2022, indicating an economic turnaround after a pandemic-related revenue loss of € 1.3 billion in the years 2021 to 2023.
  • The airport invested in climate protection measures to enable CO2 neutral airport operations by 2030, such as installing photovoltaic systems, expanding electric mobility, and using renewable energy sources.
  • The airport also implemented business location projects that added 1,000 new jobs to the airport site, such as building a new cargo center, a hotel, and an office park.

The report also provides a traffic forecast for 2023, expecting 23.7 million passengers at Vienna Airport and 30.1 million passengers in the Flughafen Wien Group (including Malta and Kosice airports).
