Vietnamese budget carrier Vietjet Air and Kazakhstan’s Qazaq Air have joined forces to create a new low-cost airline, Vietjet Qazaqstan, set to operate a fleet of at least 20 Boeing 737 aircraft. Building on Qazaq Air’s existing platform, the carrier will link Kazakhstan with Vietnam and the wider Southeast Asia region, offering affordable connections for both leisure and business travelers. The partnership was officially unveiled on May 6, 2025, at the Kazakhstan–Vietnam Business Roundtable in Astana, part of Vietnamese General Secretary To Lam’s state visit, signalling a major step in regional aviation collaboration.

Under the agreement, Aviation Holdings—Vietjet’s wholly owned subsidiary—secured a Foreign Investment Registration Certificate from Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance, authorizing the acquisition of a strategic equity stake in Qazaq Air. This approval paves the way for Vietjet Qazaqstan to leverage Vietjet Air’s low-cost model and operational expertise while tapping into Qazaq Air’s domestic network. Vietjet Air framed the move as a milestone in its international expansion strategy, designed to deepen bilateral ties between Vietnam and Kazakhstan across aviation, economic and cultural domains, and to stimulate tourism and trade in both markets.

As part of the launch, Vietjet Qazaqstan signed a Customer Services General Terms Agreement with Boeing, ensuring comprehensive support for its future Boeing 737 fleet. Boeing will provide software solutions for fleet management, a steady supply of spare parts, and technical assistance to maintain operational reliability. In addition, Boeing will deliver specialized training programs for pilots and engineers, covering everything from standard procedures to advanced safety protocols. The agreement also covers aircraft modifications and upgrades, enabling Vietjet Qazaqstan to introduce cabin enhancements and efficiency improvements as the fleet expands.

Vietjet Qazaqstan plans to adopt modern operating models and digital management systems from day one, integrating advanced crew scheduling, predictive maintenance and customer-facing apps. The airline will implement rigorous training programs that reflect Vietjet Air’s best practices, equipping its workforce with the skills to deliver consistent service quality and operational excellence. Ongoing technical and operational support from Vietjet Air will help ensure that Vietjet Qazaqstan maintains high on-time performance and safety standards while scaling up its network across Central Asia and Southeast Asia.

During the roundtable event, General Secretary To Lam underscored the long-standing friendship between Vietnam and Kazakhstan, dating back to President Ho Chi Minh’s visit in August 1959. He noted that the new airline exemplifies the upgraded strategic partnership established during his state visit, laying the groundwork for deeper cooperation. By connecting key business and cultural centers, Vietjet Qazaqstan is expected to boost passenger traffic, enhance cargo capacity and foster closer people-to-people ties. As the carrier prepares for its inaugural flights, it promises to offer travelers new, cost-effective routes and to strengthen economic links between two dynamic emerging markets.
