Vietnam’s Sun Phu Quoc Airlines to Launch with A320 Family Jets

Vietnamese start-up Sun Phu Quoc Airlines has confirmed it will begin operations in late 2025 using Airbus A320 Family aircraft, including the A320, A321, and A321neo. The announcement follows the issuance of a business license from Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction, according to a June 13 update shared by Sun Group, the airline’s promoter.
Sun Group, a major Vietnamese real estate and hospitality firm, is positioning the new carrier to serve both domestic and international markets, with Phu Quoc Island as its central hub. Initial routes will connect the island to major Vietnamese cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang, while future expansion will target key international destinations including South Korea, Japan, and China. Longer-term ambitions include new routes into Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, Australia, and other underserved regions.
While Sun Phu Quoc Airlines will start with narrowbody Airbus jets, the company is also in discussions with Boeing regarding potential future aircraft acquisitions. No specifics were shared about the number of aircraft or progress of negotiations. However, in its initial announcement, Sun Group indicated it aims to operate a fleet of 31 aircraft by 2030.
To launch the airline, Sun Group has contributed VND1 trillion (USD38.3 million) in equity, with the total investment expected to reach VND2.5 trillion (USD95.8 million). It remains unclear whether the group will fully fund the airline or seek additional investors.
Sun Phu Quoc Airlines enters a competitive Vietnamese aviation market, positioning itself for growth through a tourism-focused network.
