Viking Amun Floated Out Ahead of 2025 Nile Debut
Viking has marked a major milestone for its Nile River fleet with the float‑out of its newest vessel, the Viking Amun. On Thursday, the 82‑guest ship touched water for the first time during a traditional ceremony at the Massara shipyard in Cairo, signaling the start of final outfitting and interior construction.
Scheduled to debut in September 2025, the Viking Amun will join Viking’s acclaimed series of Nile cruise ships on the popular 12‑day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary. Once floated out, the vessel will be moved to a nearby dock for finishing work on public spaces, staterooms and the signature indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace that offers panoramic river views.
The Viking Amun can host up to 82 guests in 41 staterooms designed for comfort and understated luxury. Each cabin will feature Viking’s hallmark Scandinavian design, plush bedding, and generous windows. The Aquavit Terrace, with its retractable roof and expansive deck, will provide an open‑air lounge for morning yoga, sunset cocktails and cultural presentations.

On its maiden season, the Viking Amun will sail the 12‑day Pharaohs & Pyramids voyage, beginning with visits to the Great Pyramids of Giza, the ancient Necropolis of Sakkara, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali and the Grand Egyptian Museum. These iconic sites provide a window into Egypt’s storied past before guests fly to Luxor to embark on their river cruise.
In Luxor, travelers will explore the majestic Temples of Luxor and Karnak before boarding the ship for an eight‑day roundtrip journey. Highlights of the cruise include the Valley of the Queens and the Tomb of Nefertari, followed by the Valley of the Kings and the Tomb of Tutankhamen, with expert guides illuminating the history and significance of each excavation.
Viking plans to launch five additional river ships in Egypt over the next two years, expanding its Nile fleet to 12 vessels by 2027.
