Virgin Australia Group has begun taking delivery of Embraer E190-E2 jets as part of its plan to modernize its regional fleet and replace aging Fokker 100 aircraft. The first E190-E2 arrived in Perth this week, marking a significant milestone for the airline’s ongoing fleet renewal strategy.

The carrier has eight E190-E2s on order, with further deliveries scheduled over the coming months. These next-generation regional jets will be deployed across Virgin Australia’s regional and short-haul domestic network, offering improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and enhanced passenger comfort compared to the Fokker 100s they are replacing.

The Embraer E190-E2 features new-generation Pratt & Whitney PW1900G engines, advanced aerodynamics and a redesigned cabin. Its improved range and operating economics make it well-suited for Australia’s vast regional markets, where demand for reliable, cost-efficient service is growing.

Industry analysts say the arrival of the E190-E2 will allow Virgin Australia to increase capacity on key regional routes while reducing maintenance costs and environmental impact. The fleet upgrade also positions the airline to respond more flexibly to market fluctuations and expand its presence in underserved areas.

For passengers, the E190-E2 promises a quieter, more spacious cabin with larger windows, upgraded seating, and improved inflight amenities. Virgin Australia’s investment in the new aircraft underscores its commitment to strengthening its regional operations and enhancing connectivity between Australia’s cities and outlying communities as travel demand continues to recover.
