Volaris was unveiled as the airline that ordered 25 Airbus A321neo aircraft in October 2022

Volaris, a budget airline based in Mexico, has recently revealed its order of 25 Airbus A321neos, solidifying their partnership with Airbus. This latest addition brings the total number of A320neo family aircraft in Volaris’ backlog to 143, as part of the purchase agreement signed back in October 2022. The fleet of the Mexican carrier will be equipped with Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines, according to the European plane manufacturer.

The confirmation of this order came during the prestigious Paris Air Show in 2023. During the same event, Volaris and Pratt & Whitney also entered into an agreement for the supply of PW1100G engines to power 64 Airbus A321neo aircraft. This means Volaris now has a total commitment to use the Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines to power 217 of its aircraft.

As of May 31, 2023, Volaris stands as the largest operator of A320neo family aircraft in Latin America, boasting a fleet that includes 51 A320neo and 18 A321neo planes, based on Airbus Orders & Deliveries data. Furthermore, on June 8, 2023, Volaris received another A321neo, registered as XA-VUA.

Enrique Beltranena, the President and CEO of Volaris, expressed his excitement about the A321neo addition, stating that it aligns with their long-term business strategy for sustainability. He also revealed that Volaris aims to transition to an all-NEO fleet by 2028. This move reflects the airline’s strong financial position and ambitious plans for growth on domestic routes within Mexico, as well as expanded flights to the United States and Central America.

Christian Sherer, Airbus’s Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International, also expressed his confidence in the A321neo’s superior performance and efficiency. He believes it will play a crucial role in driving Volaris’ network growth, especially in the thriving Mexican leisure market, enabling the airline to meet the anticipated future demand effectively.
