Windstar Cruises Sets Sail into a Future of Growth and Innovation

Share

Windstar Cruises, under the leadership of President Christopher Prelog, has navigated significant milestones and innovative expansions in recent years. Since Prelog’s appointment in September 2020, Windstar Cruises has successfully sailed through the challenges of the pandemic, and overseen the major renovation of its Star Plus Class ships.

One of Prelog’s key achievements was relaunching the fleet in 2021, a complex task given the pandemic’s changing landscape. This involved intricate coordination with various ports and regulations, along with ensuring crew safety and compliance. Looking back, Prelog views this as a successful navigation of the challenges presented.

Windstar’s “Pick Your Perk” Sale

Windstar Cruises has reintroduced its “Pick Your Perk” holiday season sale, valid until February 29, 2024. This offer includes one free hotel night pre- or post-cruise or up to $1,000 onboard credit for amenities like shore excursions and spa services. Premium suite guests have the option to upgrade to Windstar’s All-Inclusive Fare, adding more value to their journey. This promotion applies to sailings through spring 2026.

Star Plus Class Ships Overhaul

The comprehensive refurbishment of the Star Plus Class ships – Star Legend, Star Breeze, and Star Pride – added 50 suites, new restaurants, expanded deck areas with pools, and more. Prelog describes this project as one of the most complex in the industry, especially given the timing during the pandemic.

Wind Class Redesign and Future Plans

Windstar is now focusing on a multi-year program to redesign its Wind Class sailing ships – Wind Star, Wind Spirit, and Wind Surf. The first phase of Wind Star’s renovation is complete, and future refurbishments are planned for the staterooms and restaurants by 2025. Similar updates for Wind Spirit and Wind Surf are scheduled for completion in 2025 and 2026, respectively.

Winter Europe Cruises and New South America Sailings

Following the cancellation of its Middle East season, Windstar introduced winter Europe cruises. Prelog anticipates this will become a popular offering, with plans for year-round presence in Europe. In December 2025, Windstar will expand to South America with new itineraries aboard Star Pride, including tours to Machu Picchu and the Galapagos Islands.

Guest Profile and Travel Advisor Importance

Windstar appeals to a diverse range of travelers, from active adventurers to relaxation seekers. Prelog emphasizes the importance of travel advisors in matching the right clients to Windstar’s unique experiences. The company invests in training and marketing toolkits for advisors, and Prelog credits them as vital to Windstar’s success.

Looking Ahead to 2024

Prelog is optimistic about the future, foreseeing 2024 as Windstar’s best year yet. He encourages travel advisors to engage with the brand through familiarization trips, marketing materials, and regional sales manager support. He highlights the brand’s appeal for various traveler types, including groups, food enthusiasts, and solo adventurers.

As Windstar Cruises continues to innovate and expand its offerings, Prelog’s vision and strategic leadership position the company for ongoing growth and success in the competitive cruise industry.
