With contract talks coming, Bay Area hotel unions merge

San Francisco and Oakland locals of the Unite Here hotel workers’ union have agreed to merge in anticipation of new bargaining with the recovering industry. About half the area’s pre-pandemic lodging workforce has been called back, and union leaders say returning staff are being saddled with multiple tasks by management cost-cutting.
