WITT Introduces First Wellness Hotel Certification
The Wellness in Travel & Tourism (WITT) has launched the first-ever wellness certification program for hotels and resorts, marking a significant innovation in the hospitality industry. As the wellness travel market is poised to grow to $1.3 trillion by 2025, this timely initiative addresses a crucial gap in industry standards, setting a benchmark for wellness accommodations.
The certification evaluates properties based on a robust 100-point system, focusing on five pillars: Healthy Eating, Holistic Healing, Nature, Movement, and Local Impact. These criteria ensure that certified properties offer guests superior wellness experiences that are integrated seamlessly into their stay.
More than 100 properties have already achieved certification, including well-known establishments like Lake Austin Spa Resort in Texas, The Wigwam in Arizona, and The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay in California. This early adoption underscores the program’s wide appeal and relevance across different types of hospitality properties.
Robin Ruiz, CEO and Founder of WITT, describes the certification as the “Michelin Guide for Wellness Travel,” highlighting its potential to give certified hotels and resorts a competitive edge in attracting health-conscious travelers. “The WITT Certified seal provides an objective and rigorous audit of a property’s wellness amenities and services,” said Ruiz. This certification not only boosts a property’s attractiveness but also enhances guest confidence in the quality of wellness offerings.
In addition to offering certification, WITT provides consulting, guidance, and marketing support to assist hotels and resorts in improving their wellness services. The organization is also set to launch a consumer-facing website that will feature certified hotels, articles, and destination spotlights, further empowering travelers to make informed wellness travel decisions.
