Wizz Air Expands Operations at Bucharest’s Airports

Wizz Air has announced a major expansion of its network in Romania, with a wave of new routes launching from Bucharest’s two international airports—Otopeni-Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP) and Baneasa-Aurel Vlaicu International Airport (BBU)—beginning October 26, 2025. The move underscores Romania’s importance as the airline’s largest market and further strengthens Wizz Air’s presence in Eastern Europe.

At Otopeni, the busier of the two Bucharest airports, Wizz Air will add six new international routes. These include flights to Brindisi (BDS) and Pescara (PSR) in Italy, Cologne (CGN) in Germany, Gdansk (GDN) in Poland, Porto (POR) in Portugal, and Bratislava (BTS) in Slovakia. The services are scheduled to commence between October 26 and 28.

Simultaneously, the airline will rebalance its route operations between Otopeni and Baneasa to optimize capacity and improve customer convenience. Four popular destinations currently served from Otopeni—Milan-Bergamo (BGY), Barcelona (BCN), Brussels-Charleroi (CRL), and Turin (TRN)—will also be operated from Baneasa starting October 26, providing travelers with more options from the centrally located airport.

In addition to the dual-served destinations, five new routes will launch exclusively from Baneasa: Basel-EuroAirport (BSL), Frankfurt (FRA), Memmingen (MMA), Nice (NCE), and Athens (ATH). To support these new services, Wizz Air will base a second Airbus A321ceo aircraft at Baneasa.

Mauro Peneda, Managing Director of Wizz Air Malta, emphasized the airline’s commitment to Romania, noting that it remains Wizz Air’s largest market. As of June 2025, the airline operates eight Romanian bases, located in Bucharest-Baneasa, Bucharest-Otopeni, Cluj-Napoca (CLJ), Craiova (CRA), Iasi (IAS), Sibiu (SBZ), Suceava (SCV), and Timisoara (TSR).

This strategic expansion reflects Wizz Air’s continued investment in regional connectivity and its goal to meet growing demand for affordable and efficient travel across Europe.
