Wizz Air Holdings has been in talks with Airbus about a new order for at least 100 A320neo Family jets for several months and is reportedly nearing a final deal, sources told Reuters news agency.

Both the low-cost carrier and the manufacturer refused to comment.

Wizz Air is aggressively expanding, hoping to increase its market share as the European aviation industry recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. The group’s current fleet comprises sixty-four A320-200s, six A320-200Ns, forty-one A321-200s, and thirty-five A321-200NXs split between its Wizz Air, Wizz Air UK, and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi AOCs. It has orders for a further thirty-four A320-200Ns, 181 A321-200NXs, and twenty A321-200NX(XLR)s due directly from the Airbus.

Recently, the Hungarian low-cost carrier unsuccessfully attempted to buy easyJet.

The news about Wizz Air’s potential order comes shortly after Ryanair Holdings publicly ended its talks with Boeing over a new order for B737-10s due to a purported lack of agreement on pricing.
