Wizz Air Malta to Launch Suceava Base with 8 New Routes

Wizz Air Malta plans to reopen a base at Suceava International Airport in Romania, starting in December 2025. The low-cost carrier will initially deploy one Airbus A321-200neo, with a second aircraft to follow in January 2026. This move marks a return to Suceava for Wizz Air, which previously closed its base there in October 2023.
With the new base, Wizz Air Malta will introduce eight new routes from Suceava, expanding its footprint across Europe. The airline will operate flights to Milan Bergamo, Venice Marco Polo, Bologna, Vienna, Brussels Charleroi, Larnaca, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, and Birmingham in the United Kingdom. These additions aim to enhance connectivity between northern Romania and key European cities, catering to both leisure and business travelers.
Currently, Wizz Air and its subsidiaries—Wizz Air Malta and Wizz Air UK—command a dominant 81.6% share of Suceava Airport’s total seat capacity. The group already serves five destinations from Suceava: Dortmund, London Luton, Memmingen, Milan Malpensa, and Rome Fiumicino.
TAROM, Romania’s national airline, is the only other scheduled carrier operating out of Suceava, maintaining its route to Bucharest Henri Coanda. The reopening of Wizz Air Malta’s base and the addition of new routes are expected to significantly boost passenger traffic and support regional economic development.
