Wizz Air moves routes from Abu Dhabi to Dubai
Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) has temporarily relocated a number of its forthcoming new United Arab Emirates routes, that were to be operated into Abu Dhabi Int’l, to Dubai Int’l citing the capital’s stricter border restrictions.
“The restrictions in Abu Dhabi are still pretty firm for many of our flights from Europe. However, we still would like to provide our passengers the opportunity to travel to the UAE, so that is why we decided to keep our flights in Dubai for the upcoming few months. We hope that soon we’ll be able to fly to Abu Dhabi,” a spokesperson told ch-aviation.
The ch-aviation schedules module indicates that the low-cost carrier has deferred services to Abu Dhabi from Bucharest Otopeni, Budapest, Catania, Cluj-Napoca, Katowice, and Sofia, which were due to launch over the course of September and October 2021. Instead, it will offer the same services from Dubai Int’l airport. They will be the carrier’s only currently operated flights to the UAE.
According to the current schedule, the LCC plans to return the routes to Abu Dhabi in mid-January 2022. The airline also plans to launch a route from Bari to Abu Dhabi on November 2, 2021.
None of the relocated routes is or was due to be served by Wizz Air’s local unit, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi.
