Wizz Air Negotiates Airbus Delivery Deferrals Beyond 2030

Wizz Air is reportedly in advanced discussions with Airbus to defer delivery of around 100 aircraft originally scheduled to arrive between now and 2030, according to a Bloomberg report citing internal sources. Chief financial officer Ian Malin is said to have told investors at an event in Singapore that the talks are close to completion. The airline declined to comment on the report.

Current ch-aviation data shows Wizz Air has outstanding orders for 235 A321neo family aircraft and 42 A321XLRs. The airline has already confirmed plans to convert some of its A321XLR orders into standard-range variants following the decision to wind down Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, which was expected to operate many of the long-range aircraft.

Despite the discussions on deferrals, Wizz Air continues to induct new aircraft into its fleet. Since early September, the airline has added two A321neo aircraft to its Hungarian operations, one A321XLR and two A321neo to Wizz Air Malta, and another A321XLR to Wizz Air UK.

The potential delivery shift comes as the airline restructures to manage costs and refocuses on Central and Eastern Europe, its core markets. The closure of the Abu Dhabi venture, a partnership with the local government, is part of this strategic realignment. However, Wizz Air remains financially solid. For the financial year ending March 31, 2025, it reported a net profit of EUR213.9 million and an EBITDA margin of 21.5%.

The airline’s long-term fleet plans will continue to shape its network strategy and competitive positioning across Europe.
