Wizz Air to open seasonal Naples, Italy base in late 3Q21

Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) will open a base at Naples Capodichino Airport later this summer, deploying two A321-200Ns to the southern Italian port city in August and September. “I am delighted to announce Wizz Air’s newest base at Naples International Airport and the quadrupling of our capacity at the airport and the quadrupling of our capacity at the airport,” the Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air Holdings, George Michalopoulos, said. “Wizz Air’s six Italian bases, together with the basing of two Airbus A321neo aircraft and the addition of 18 new routes, is a further testament to the airline’s firm plan to establishing itself as the most trusted and sustainable player among Italy’s top three airlines. It is a true honour to serve Italy’s third-biggest city and support the ramp-up of the local economy and the tourism sector.” The combined capacity will allow the LCC to offer 18 new destinations in nine countries from Naples as follows:

  • Lampedusa 2x weekly (starts July 30, 2021);
  • Chania 2x weekly (starts July 30, 2021);
  • Milan Linate Daily (starts July 30; 2x daily as of September);
  • Olbia 5x weekly (starts July 30, 2021);
  • Mykonos 3x weekly (starts July 31, 2021);
  • Ibiza daily (starts July 30, 2021);
  • Santorini 2x weekly (starts August 1, 2021);
  • Turin 3x weekly (starts September 15, 2021);
  • Fuerteventura 2x weekly (starts September 15, 2021);
  • London Luton 5x weekly (starts September 15, 2021);
  • Tel Aviv Ben Gurion 2x weekly (starts September 15, 2021);
  • Verona 3x weekly (starts September 16, 2021);
  • Casablanca Int’l 3x weekly (starts September 16, 2021);
  • Tenerife Sur 3x weekly (starts September 16, 2021);
  • Reykjavik Keflavik 2x weekly (starts September 17, 2021);
  • Tallinn Lennart Meri 2x weekly (starts September 17, 2021);
  • Prague Václav Havel 2x weekly (starts September 18, 2021);
  • Sharm el Sheikh 1x weekly (starts September 18, 2021).

Naples is already a base for easyJet (through easyJet Europe), Ryanair (through Malta Air), and Volotea. In terms fo weekly capacity at present, Ryanair controls Naples with 21,339 seats out of the 64,056 currently available (or 33.31%) proffered via 113 weekly departures out of the 375 in total. By contrast, Wizz Air currently offers 4,353 seats/week via 22 weekly departures putting it in fourth place behind easyJet (11,184 seats/week via 61 departures) and Volotea (6,516 seats/week via 37 weekly departures). Wizz Air also has bases at Milan Malpensa, Catania, Palermo, Bari, and Rome Fiumicino.
