Wizz Air UK Postpones A321XLR Launch Over Delivery Issues

Wizz Air UK has postponed the entry into service of its Airbus A321XLR for a second time due to an “unforeseen issue during the delivery process.” The airline has not specified a new delivery date, and the cause of the delay has not been disclosed.

Originally, Wizz Air UK planned to operate its first A321XLR revenue flight on March 31, 2025, from London Gatwick to Jeddah. However, this was pushed to April 10 before being delayed again. Despite the delay, the airline proceeded with its network expansion and launched flights between London and Riyadh using the Airbus A321neo (A321-200NX).

To accommodate the longer route, the airline limited the passenger capacity on the A321neo to reduce weight and enable nonstop operations between the UK and Saudi Arabia. While the A321neo has a shorter range than the XLR variant, this adjustment allows the airline to maintain its planned routes without requiring refueling stops.

The first A321XLR to join Wizz Air UK’s fleet will be registered as G-XLRA (manufacturer serial number 11631). It is expected to become the first XLR variant to enter service within the entire Wizz Air Group.

Wizz Air Holdings has placed a total of 47 A321XLRs on order across its various divisions, including Wizz Air Hungary, Wizz Air Malta, and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi. The aircraft are expected to play a significant role in expanding the group’s medium- and long-haul capabilities once deliveries commence.
