Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport remains the busiest airport in the world, handling over 108 million passengers in 2024, according to the latest report from Airports Council International (ACI) World. While Atlanta tops the list, its traffic is still 2.2% below 2019 levels.
Dubai International Airport ranks second with 92.3 million passengers and leads globally in international traffic. The airport surpassed pre-pandemic numbers, highlighting its strong global connectivity.
Global air travel hit a record high in 2024, with 9.4 billion passengers, up 8.4% from 2023 and 2.7% above 2019. ACI forecasts 9.9 billion air travelers in 2025, despite challenges such as economic headwinds, geopolitical tensions, and aircraft production delays.
The top 15 busiest airports by total passengers in 2024 include major hubs like Dallas/Fort Worth, Tokyo Haneda, London Heathrow, and Istanbul. Notably, Delhi climbed to ninth place, reflecting India’s growing aviation market.
U.S. airports dominate the rankings, with six making the top 15. Airports in China—Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Beijing—have re-entered the global top 20 after pandemic-related drops.
For international travelers, the busiest airports were Dubai, London Heathrow, Incheon, and Singapore Changi. These hubs continue to serve as major gateways for global connectivity.
Some airports, including Los Angeles, Paris, and Amsterdam, are still below their pre-pandemic passenger volumes. Beijing Capital Airport remains 32.6% below 2019 levels, one of the slowest recoveries among major airports.
The global surge in air travel highlights increasing demand and shifting dynamics in international and domestic aviation markets.
