ZIPAIR to Launch Nonstop Flights from Tokyo to Houston in 2025
Japanese low-cost carrier ZIPAIR has announced the launch of direct nonstop flights between Tokyo-Narita Airport (NRT) and Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), starting on March 4, 2025. This new service will make ZIPAIR the first budget airline to offer direct flights between the two cities, using its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners.
The Tokyo-Houston route will operate four times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. ZIPAIR’s expansion into Houston marks its fifth transpacific destination, joining Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, and Vancouver.
To promote the new route, ZIPAIR is offering promotional fares starting at $333 one-way from Houston to Tokyo. Regular fares will be around $450 each way.
ZIPAIR highlighted Houston’s importance as a major economic hub in the US, home to more than 50 Fortune 500 companies and a growing population driven by business-friendly policies. The airline noted that Houston offers extensive connecting services across the US, South America, and beyond, though ZIPAIR does not currently have interline agreements with other airlines.
Following the low-cost carrier model, ZIPAIR relies on ancillary revenue, with charges for additional services such as in-flight catering. However, the airline offers business class with lie-flat beds and free internet connectivity to all passengers.
ZIPAIR will compete with All Nippon Airways (ANA) and United Airlines, both of which operate the Houston-Tokyo route using Boeing 787-9s, with ANA also serving Tokyo-Haneda Airport.
ZIPAIR’s fleet consists of eight Boeing 787-8s, each configured with 290 seats, including 18 in business class and 270 in economy, flying across nine routes to 10 destinations in seven countries.
