PSP extension saves tens of thousands of US airline jobs

The American Rescue Plan, including direct payroll assistance for US airlines, was signed by President Biden on Thursday. With the extension of the Payroll Support Program assured, 27,000 employees at American and United Airlines can stop worrying about potential furloughs. “By extending PSP, our teams will be able to remain current in their training and ready to match expected future demand,” said United CEO Scott Kirby, adding: “Thousands of frontline workers will now receive paychecks and health care through September, which is especially critical while vaccine distribution continues to ramp up.”
