Canada’s Cargojet Airways to operate two B767s for Amazon

Cargojet Airways (W8, Hamilton, ON) is set to join the list of airlines operating freighter aircraft owned by Amazon.com after the two parties signed a services agreement covering two B767-300(ERBDSF)s. The Canadian cargo specialist will operate the two Boeing freighters on a CMI basis, formally on behalf of Amazon Canada Fulfillment Services, ULC. The contract is due to start in mid-2021, once the conversion of the two aircraft is completed. The agreement will initially run for four years, although the contract foresees three successive two-year extension options. Although Cargojet has operated charter flights on behalf of Amazon in the past, it does not have any aircraft under an exclusive contract with the e-commerce firm at this time. The ch-aviation fleets advanced module indicates that Cargojet’s fleet comprises eight B757-200(PCF)s, three B767-200(ERBDSF)s, four B767-300(ERBCF)s, and ten B767-300(ERBDSF)s. The airline owns most of the aircraft, except for five B767 freighters dry-leased from Cargo Aircraft Management, the ch-aviation fleets ownership module shows. In 2019, Cargojet issued warrants for a 14.9% stake to Amazon.com which mature subject to commercial requirement over a seven-year period. Amazon.com does not have exclusive charter contracts with any other Canadian airline.
