A “back to work” ordinance that was passed in San Francisco this week and forwarded to the mayor for signature will require employers who let staff go amid the pandemic to give those former employees the first chance at positions when they are ready to rehire. The new rules, which will remain in place for one year, will apply to restaurants, hotels with at least 100 rooms and businesses with over 100 employees.
