TSA, US airlines navigate busy holiday weekend
Over the holiday weekend, airlines saw passenger levels nearing pre-pandemic volume, as the Transportation Security Administration screened over 10 million passengers between July 1 and July 5 and Airlines for America said flights were 89% full last week. “Leisure demand is more than 100%,” said United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby, adding: “The recovery indicates the huge desire for people to get back to living life.” Although some travel days set pandemic travel records, the 2021 Fourth of July travel period could not match 2019 passenger volume, when 12 million travelers flew before the onset of the pandemic.”
