The New England hospitality industry is making formal pleas for courtesy to the public and mapping coping strategies for personnel in response to what it calls a pandemic of shabby treatment of employees by customers as hotels reopen with short staff. “I don’t know if it’s a sign of political divisiveness, or whether everybody lost social skills over the last year,” says Sarah Bratko, a lobbyist for the Rhode Island Hospitality Association.
