Hotel guests in Maui soon will be paying an extra hotel tax as officials cope with a burdensome new influx of tourists and look to reap a revenue windfall. The 3% local levy, added to the 10% state tax under a new state law, could nearly triple Maui’s current $23 million annual yield, Maui County Council Chair Alice Lee said.
