CDC Director Rochelle Walensky urged unvaccinated people in the US to avoid traveling during the upcoming Labor Day weekend as COVID-19 levels remain high. The US is reporting an average of 160,000 new COVID-19 cases per day, according to Johns Hopkins University, and the surge is pushing hospitals to their limits, with five states — Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia and Texas — already surpassing 90% of intensive care unit bed capacity.
