Exploring Lisbon on Two Wheels
Don’t let Lisbon’s steep narrow streets deter you—it’s a wonderful city to explore by bike. The northwest bank of the Tagus River offers a dedicated bike path that is loaded with epic views and tasty things to eat and drink. Rent a bike at the Marina Parque das Nações to enjoy 10 flat miles along the water—the perfect way to stretch your legs, see the sights, and take in the fresh Atlantic breezes.
Heading west, marvel at the sleek silver lines of the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT). Then take in the longest suspension bridge in Europe, the 25th April Bridge, named for the Carnation Revolution of 1974.
Continue towards the district of Belem, then it’s time for a snack. Pastéis de Belém is the creator of the famous pastel de nata, the satisfying custard tart with which Portuguese across the country start their day.
Visit the Torre de Belem and the Monasteiro Jeronimo for pristine examples of ornate Manueline architecture. Browse the collections at Museu Coleção Berardo, which combines exciting new Portuguese artists with international greats.
Heading back towards the city center for lunch, make a pit stop at LX Factory, a creative multi-use space with over 50 artisanal shops and hip eateries, in a transformed industrial setting.
Back near the cruise ship terminal, make stops at the Museu Nacional do Azulejo and the Museu do Fado, to take a peak into the national psyche with these uniquely Portuguese art forms. End your ride in the hip Marvila neighborhood with a cold, crisp beer at one of the finest craft breweries on the continent, Dois Corvos.
