The number of US hotel rooms under construction and in final planning in 2021 fell by about 20% from 2020, but a 38.9% rise in those in earlier planning stages offers hope, according to a report by STR. “This past year was the second in a row with far fewer rooms in construction and final planning, but the rise in planning activity could be an indicator that the pandemic’s impact on the pipeline will be different than what we saw during the Great Recession,” says Alison Hoyt of STR.
