First Black commercial airline pilot featured in book

David Harris, the first African American pilot for a commercial airline when American Airlines hired him in 1964, is the subject of a new young adult biography, Segregated Skies. Harris shared about his journey as a pilot, becoming a captain at American within three years, and later mentoring the next generation of African American men and women. “Reaching back and helping others to succeed, that’s what I’d like for my legacy to be,” he said.
